FINANCE NEWS: CFDG to define role of finance directors in rating charities

The Charity Finance Directors' Group (CFDG) is to develop an action plan on the role of finance directors in measuring the performance of charities.

CFDG met with the Charity Commission, Active Community Unit, NCVO, the Institute of Fundraising, Directory of Social Change and the National Audit Office early this month to discuss the issue.

Finance directors have a vital role to play in ensuring that the inputs used in measuring charity performance are consistent, according to CFDG policy officer David Sinclair. "All of the other initiatives going on will succeed if we can ensure that the inputs are being measured in the same way across the sector as a whole,

he said.

NCVO and the Charity Commission came together in May to host an exploratory meeting on how the sector can publicly measure what it does.
