Social Enterprise London, which works to build the social economy in the capital, has appointed Allison Ogden-Newton as its director.
She succeeds Jonathan Bland, who left earlier this year to join the new Social Enterprise Coalition as chief executive.
Ogden-Newton was previously chief executive of Women's Education in Building, which promotes training for women in the construction industry.
She has also worked with the Equal Opportunities Commission and trade unions such as the construction workers union UCATT and the AFL-CIO in the US.
Ogden-Newton said: "I would like to see the organisation develop its work in conjunction with actual enterprises throughout London, with an emphasis on work with BME communities and women.
"Social Enterprise London is carrying out important work with social enterprises on the ground and we need to continue to expand these . Real breakthroughs for the sector will come from getting out there and working at nuts and bolts level with enterprises."
