Finance News: New finance chief to boost profile of charity for elderly

Friends of the Elderly has appointed a finance director to replace Richard Furze, who recently became the charity's chief executive.

Peter Brearley, who began as director of finance and IT two weeks ago, said: "I will lay the platform for our centenary celebrations next year. It provides a great chance to demonstrate the charity's work and to raise its profile and money for new projects."

He aims to ensure that the charity has got the financial and support services to enable it to meet the challenges in the years ahead. One of his first tasks will be to upgrade and integrate the charity's IT networks.

Brearley moves from the Crimestoppers Trust, where he spent three years.

He worked for nine years in child health, crime reduction and overseas development, and has worked as a senior executive with the Commonwealth Development Corporation.
