LUCY PHILLIPS, fundraiser, Home-Start International
Why did you apply to this foundation? We had been working with Vodafone foundations in several countries for five years, so we were keen to build on our existing ties and on the parallel concerns of our organisations. Home-Start International facilitates the development of the Home-Start network. The money will go towards making sure each Home-Start national body has user-friendly materials that can help it set up schemes in its own country. It will also fund training events and the establishment of an intranet.
What did the application process involve? There was no form, so we chose to submit a four-page bid that included details of the needs we were seeking to meet and costed outputs and outcomes. The project was taken directly from our 2006/08 strategic plan. Although this process took only a couple of months, Home-Start International had invested months in building its relationship with the foundation.
Could the application have been simpler? No. The foundation is very accessible and the process was transparent.
Is part of the money for infrastructure or training? We deliver training and capacity building as part of our core work.
Why we gave the grant
Did you apply to other funders? No.
NIGEL THORPE, acting director, the Vodafone Group Foundation
The Vodafone Group Foundation gave this grant because the project has international reach with a strong local focus, which fits in with one of our core charitable aims. Our funding will support a step change in the organisation by enabling it to help local operations become sustainable. We believe our support of this project will ensure thousands of families benefit from Home-Start's services and support.
