Focus: Fundraising - The things they do - Lucky gym

Armed forces staff in Basra expect to raise nearly £3,000 for Children In Need after cycling and rowing - on gym equipment - the 266 miles from London to Paris.

Staff from each of the three services shared the distance on Friday at their Basra military base. They cycled the 73 miles representing the London to Dover leg, rowed 26 miles from Dover to Calais and finished by cycling 167 miles, equivalent to the Calais to Paris stretch. The event was organised by Flight Sergeant Dave Hughes (centre, in white T-shirt). Individual sponsors gave £1,600 and the remainder is coming from charity committees within the base.
