Focus: Fundraising - United against HIV

Ryan Giggs has just been appointed an ambassador for Unicef.

The Manchester United player travelled to Soweto earlier this month with team mate Kieran Richardson to learn how the charity is trying to combat the spread of Aids and HIV. During their trip they visited the Unicef-supported Men as Partners programme, which aims to encourage men to take more responsibility for stemming the spread of the virus. Giggs said: "I realised how HIV and Aids has touched the lives of so many people there - everyone seemed to know someone affected by HIV or Aids, whether it's a friend, their child or a family member. What came across clearly is that education is essential to preventing the spread and men talking to other men is key in getting the message out there."
