A charity since 1991, No Smoking Day helps people in the UK who want to give up smoking. Its three full-time members of staff and 7,000 registered campaigners contribute to sending 20,000 campaign packs every year
- More than 1 million smokers participate every year. An estimated 60,000 actually quit
- 70 per cent of the population is thought to be aware of the event's date. Since the first one in 1984, nearly 1 million people have stopped smoking as a result of the campaign
- At around £26 per life year saved, it also claims to be one of the most cost-effective health awareness campaigns.
