Focus on ... Red Nose Day

Set up in 1985, the event is organised every two years by Comic Relief and aims to collect donations nationwide to tackle poverty and social injustice in Africa and the UK

- Last year, Red Nose Day sold more than 5.5 million noses and raised £61m

- 60 per cent of the money raised is spent in Africa; the rest goes to UK projects

- The 10th Red Nose Day is on 11 March. It will be marked by seven hours of TV featuring sketches from comics such as Lenny Henry (left) and Matt Lucas

- Donations will also be raised from sales of the single It's All About You by boy band McFly.
