Focus on ... Unicef Day for Change

Pupils of West Town Primary School in Peterborough appeared on the BBC's Lifeline in January to publicise this. The annual event, which sees UK schoolchildren hold a theme day in support of the agency's work.

- The event will raise £530,000 for food programmes in Tajikistan and Ethiopia, and for the Tsunami Emergency Fund. Children choose how their donations are allocated

- 12.6 million people in Ethiopia rely on food aid to survive and more than 50 per cent of children in Tajikistan and Ethiopia are malnourished

- 4,500 schools and 500,000 children took part last year, to help children in Ghana and Vietnam.
