The four Scottish schools that failed the charity test last year have submitted acceptable plans to address their shortcomings, according to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.
In October last year, the OSCR judged that Lomond School in Helensburgh, St Leonards School in St Andrews, Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh and Hutchesons' Educational Trust in Glasgow did not spend enough of their income on means-tested bursaries.
All four schools submitted remedial plans by the 28 October deadline and the OSCR has this week said the plans meet its concerns. The regulator has not, however, revealed what the schools have done to meet the requirement.
A spokesman said the OSCR would produce a summary report in the coming weeks setting out the key points that came out of its consideration of the schools' plans.
The schools have until October 2011 to implement the measures, when the OSCR will take a final decision on their charitable status.
The charity test in Scotland - the equivalent of what is known as the public benefit test in England and Wales - assesses whether organisations have a charitable purpose and provide public benefit as required by law.
