Free HR resource for charities

A new resource has launched to help faith-based voluntary organisations keep up with changes in employment law.

Just Employment, an initiative of the Church Urban Fund, will provide free HR resources for small Christian charities.

The move follows a fund survey of 200 faith-based charities, which found that around half of them had not changed their HR policies to meet recent working time, health, age and disability regulations.

The fund said more than 60 per cent of Christian community projects had no professional in-house HR, even though almost a third had dealt with a dispute in the last five years.

“Just Employment provides an invaluable resource, particularly for church-based projects, enabling them to easily keep their employment procedures up to date,” said Tim Bissett, deputy chief executive of the Church Urban Fund.

Just Employment was created by HR experts in conjunction with the Dioceses of Chester, Liverpool and Manchester.

Guidance is available by registering at The site includes a main guide, frequently asked questions and example case studies as well as a library of downloadable documents such as contracts and sample policies and procedures.
