Friends of the Earth's newly-appointed director Tony Juniper has promised more emphasis on social justice and international campaigning in his tenure at the helm of the environmental NGO.
Juniper, currently Friends of the Earth's policy and campaigns director, takes over from Charles Secrett, who is leaving in January after 10 years in the post.
Juniper said he will gear the organisation to promote access to resources and social exclusion and development.
"There is quite a radical social justice agenda to be taken forward in the environmental debate," he said.
"Solving poverty and improving people's rights is very much an environmental issue."
He said he would also work to increase the scope of the NGO's international campaigning.
