Fundraising: Changemakers awarded year-long contract extension

A youth-led approach to delivering a Department for Education and Skills funding strand has been given a new vote of confidence.

Changemakers - a charity that promotes youth-led community action - has just learned it will carry on distributing grants to projects that promote the role of young people until March 2006. It was first appointed to handle the grants programme last September.

The programme, called the Y Speak consultation fund, has £450,000 to assist young people carrying out consultation projects with decision makers across the country.

The extension will also see young people involved in the allocation of grants.

Nick Osborne, Y Speak manager at Changemakers, said: "We are looking forward to fostering relationships between young people and decision makers that can help build a culture of participation."
