Community groups working on environmental projects can apply to the Environment Agency's Action Earth campaign for £50 grants to help buy tools.
A further £300 is available to charities that enter their project for one of five award categories, the winners of which will be named on World Environment Day on 5 June.
Some 900 projects involving 15,000 volunteers registered with this year's Action Earth campaign, resulting in more than 10,000 trees being planted and 4,000 sacks of litter being collected.
The 2005 campaign, run jointly with volunteer charity CSV, will start on 1 January. It is supported by BBC Ground Force presenter Kirsty King and will emphasise the volunteering aspect.
