The British Red Cross has entered into a partnership with Bartercard UK that will allow businesses from any sector to donate their unused services and benefit the charity.
Bartercard UK is part of an international network of bartering that allows businesses to swap any spare capacity, such as unused computers or advertising space for goods and services they need for their own business.
Transactions are made using 'trade pounds', which have the same value as pounds sterling.
In the scheme with the Red Cross, Bartercard will use these trade pounds to buy what the charity needs, ranging from car rental to medical products.
Paul Marvell, head of major donors and events at the British Red Cross, said: "Companies that can't donate cash can instead think laterally and donate excess goods and services, knowing that Bartercard can easily convert this into the things the charity really needs."
