FUNDRAISING NEWS: CLIC devises Win A Day Off Work fundraiser

Employees will be able to win a day off work as part of a fundraising initiative launched by cancer charity CLIC.

Bosses at more than 100,000 businesses throughout the South West will be asked to donate a working day as part of the Win A Day Off Work campaign.

Staff can win a day's holiday by buying £1 tickets for a charity raffle that will be held on 13 December with all proceeds going directly to CLIC.

The event is sponsored by Juice Recruitment, which will approach companies with details of the campaign. The initiative aims to raise around £20,000 for CLIC's work supporting children with cancer and leukaemia.

It is the first time that CLIC has worked on a campaign that targeted such a large number of businesses. Claudia McVie, fundraising director at the charity, said that she hoped the event would develop and grow into a national initiative over the next few years.

"The campaign has the potential to become a significant annual event for us as we try to raise our profile as a national cancer charity," she said. "Judging by the reception we've received, companies are really receptive to the idea and seem keen to get involved."

McVie added that she hoped to maximise on the initial impact of the event.

"Obviously the campaign works beautifully as an immediate fundraiser, but there is a lot of scope to develop these relationships after we've got our foot in the door," she said.
