FUNDRAISING NEWS: Congolese refugee album set to scoop Merlin £10k bonus

A CD of 10 songs highlighting the plight of people from the Democratic Republic of Congo is set to raise over £10,000 for international aid charity Merlin.

Conversations with God, to be released on 13 March, was written, produced and sung by Cedric Kithima, 21, who arrived in the UK 10 years ago after being forced to flee his homeland when it was plunged into insecurity after the genocide in Rwanda.

"This is a way for me to give something back," said Kithima, who recently graduated from Oxford University. "It's a sad fact that the world's media has largely forgotten about the incredible struggle that the Congolese people have experienced and are still going through.

"I hope this CD will help highlight my country's plight."

Initially, 1,500 copies of the CD will be pressed, with £7.50 of the £9.99 sale price going to the charity's ongoing aid programme in eastern Congo. The rest will be spent on producing further copies.

The CD will be available online at
