FUNDRAISING NEWS: Designer scooters to be auctioned off for breast cancer

Piaggio's Vespa scooter is to be given a makeover by four top international designers in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The international project brings together leading names from the world's four biggest fashion centres - London, Paris, Milan and New York.

Dolce & Gabbana, Vivienne Westwood, Givenchy and Donna Karan will help design the Vespa Collection 2002.

Each designer will create a "couture Vespa", which will be auctioned off later this year for Breakthrough's Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign.

Once customised, the scooters will be exhibited in London before being auctioned at an event in central London in October.

The scooter manufacturer also intends to work with an online auction house in the run up to the event to offer the public a chance to bid for the bikes online. The highest bids will then be taken in to account at the live auction.
