FUNDRAISING NEWS: Directory enquiries number raises £17k

The 118 499 charity directory enquiries service, which donates 5p from every call to the British Red Cross and Barnardo's, has raised more than £17,500 for the charities in its first quarter.

Share Communications, which operates the service, is now embarking on a PR campaign to encourage telephone users to help the two charities by using its number instead of other directory enquiry services.

The number, which has already received more than 300,000 calls, was voted the fastest and most efficient of the new services in a BBC Online poll (Third Sector, 17 September 2003).
