FUNDRAISING NEWS: Fundraisers greet opening of training company in Ireland

A training venture is opening its doors for Ireland's growing band of fundraisers.

Training People is said to be Ireland's first training company providing quality, locally based training for fundraisers in Northern Ireland and the Republic.

Training People's programme is inspired by a well-documented need for affordable, local training, in response to a report commissioned by the Ireland Funds - Fostering Fundraising in Ireland.

The report cites a "serious under-supply and gaps in (training) provision

as a key need in Northern and Southern Ireland.

Previously, fundraisers in Ireland have had to travel to Great Britain or the US for fundraising training, which has put training outside of the budget for most not-for-profit organisations.

The company suggests that local circumstances are profoundly different, including legal and tax regimes, the limited number of trusts and foundations in Ireland and the funding opportunities emerging from devolved government in Northern Ireland.

The programme will kick off with a two-day course followed by two one-day courses in January and February 2003.
