Children's charity NCH has appointed Simon Burne as its new director of external affairs with the brief of achieving "significant income targets".
Burne joins from Acorn's Children's Hospice where he was director of fundraising and communications. He replaces Tony Manwaring, who left NCH at the end of 2002 to become Scope's chief executive.
"We are delighted that we have been able to recruit a person of the calibre of Simon Burne," said NCH chair Gordon Edington. "We are looking forward to the drive and the professionalism he will bring to the role."
Burne is expected to develop NCH's existing income strategy. "We are aiming for a quantum leap in our fundraising," said Burne. "We want to increase our gross income without a significant increase in expenditure."
Burne will also be responsible for raising NCH's profile. "The biggest challenge is to get NCH onto the public map," said Burne.
