FUNDRAISING NEWS: Non-profit groups in Wales to benefit from stadium fund

The Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust has handed out almost £280,000 in grants to 73 non-profit organisations across Wales.

The money comes from a 25p levy on every ticket sold at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. The trust distributes the fund through two grant schemes, Traws Cymru and ACTIVATE!, which aim to promote greater understanding and awareness of Wales' cultural diversity.

Projects funded by the Traws Cymru scheme include £2,000 for accommodation and coach hire for two football teams from Pant and Dowlais Boys and Girls' Clubs and £4,000 for SNAP Cymru to facilitate a youth forum for children with learning disabilities.

"Traws Cymru makes relatively small grants to cover travel visits on a host and exchange basis," said Helen Wilson, the scheme's grants assessor.

"The trust can provide assistance to cover transport and accommodation expenses for sporting trips, costs which are usually borne by the parents."

The closing date for the next round of awards hasn't been finalised, but is expected to be towards the end of April.
