Fundraising News: Olympian launches 2004 Poppy Appeal

Former army sergeant turned Olympic heroine Kelly Holmes did her bit to help ex-colleagues when she launched the Royal British Legion's 2004 Poppy Appeal last week.

The appeal aims to raise £22m, which would surpass last year's record-breaking total of £21.7m.

The appeal yields most of the £54m that the charity spends each year on welfare support to ex-servicemen and women and their families.

Holmes continued the charity's recent tradition of recruiting younger stars to launch the appeal in order to broaden its reach.

Pop groups the Spice Girls, S Club 7 and Westlife have performed the honours in recent years.

'Your best way to say thank you' is the strapline for the 2004 appeal.
