The Refugee Council is launching an 'in memoriam' fundraising programme to broaden its channels of support for existing donors.
It is running the campaign as part of the 'Our Lasting Tribute' initiative, a new membership-based fundraising scheme by the agency Whitewater which sets up personalised tribute funds in the name of a deceased friend or relative. Donations can then be made directly into a fund that bears the name of the deceased.
"We're perhaps not the most obvious charity to invest in this area of fundraising," said Clare Millerchip, direct marketing manager at The Refugee Council. "However, research has confirmed that our donors are typically very involved with our cause and we feel that a tribute fund programme will be welcomed by them."
Since the initiative was launched in February, more than 20 charities including the British Heart Foundation, Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Brooke Hospital for Animals have signed up.
