FUNDRAISING NEWS: Sight Savers teams with opticians for week-long appeal

Specsavers Opticians are launching a "Make a Spectacle of Yourself

appeal, on behalf of Sight Savers International, to help eliminate avoidable blindness.

The charity has distributed fundraising packs to Specsavers' 450 outlets in the UK.

The majority of activities will take place in-store and will involve fancy dress and leg-shaving antics, through to outdoor pursuits such as sponsored walks.

The week-long appeal will coincide with World Sight Day on 10 October, which is in its third year and is run by the Vision 2020 global alliance.

Sight Savers' fundraising and communications director Jennie Meadows said: "On World Sight Day, people across the globe will be calling for sight to become a basic human right."

The appeal is an introduction to the Specsavers and Sight Savers ongoing partnership, which aims to raise £85,000 this year.
