Fundraising News: Taylor Woodrow to offer work training in building industry

The housing company Taylor Woodrow has formed a partnership with Barnardo's to train young people in the building trade.

Barnardo's young clients will be offered training in painting, decorating, bricklaying and car mechanics.

The company has given an initial donation of £40,000 and employees will take part in fundraising initiatives and a payroll-giving scheme.

Steve O'Connor, director of fundraising at Barnardo's, said: "Taylor Woodrow is not only giving us a generous cash donation, but is also lending us its expertise and support, which will be invaluable to help us develop our skills programme. This is a great example of how corporations can really invest in the community and even train its future workforce."

There is no direct agreement for the company to hire the trainees, but it could happen in the future, O'Connor said.

Taylor Woodrow has a turnover of £2.6bn and operates in the UK, Spain and the US.
