FUNDRAISING NEWS: Waterways Trust to set up face-to-face fundraising teams

The Waterways Trust is establishing its own face-to-face fundraising scheme following a successful agency trial in 2002.

The trust is looking to recruit three regional teams which will work to introduce new supporters and encourage regular donations.

The first team will cover the north of England, the second will cover the Midlands and South West, and the third will be based in Falkirk, Scotland.

Joanne Darlington, direct media manager at the Waterways Trust, said: "The agency trial was based in London, but because our sites and events are across the country it made sense to build up our own regional teams."

The trust decided to invest in face-to-face fundraising because the pilot project proved to be very cost effective.

Darlington said: "Because we have specific sites and events with captive audiences, face-to-face fundraising is ideal for us."

Funds raised will be for general use rather than specific projects.
