FUNDRAISING NEWS: The Woodland Trust receives help from leading UK actress

Actress Prunella Scales is lending her support to a campaign by The Woodland Trust to increase its number of legacy donations.

At present, the trust receives only 4 per cent of legacies given to conservation charities.

Scales, a long-standing Woodland Trust supporter, aims to get across the message that legacy funding is not only vital to tree conservation but easy to execute.

"Did you know that eight out of 10 people give money to charity during their lifetime but only 4 per cent leave money to charity in their will?", is her message. "Leaving a legacy to the Woodland Trust does not mean negotiating a complex legal obstacle course."

The trust, which has more than 250,000 supporters and members, has supplied information on the will-making process on its web site,, in language designed to further simplify the process.

Without legacy income over the past two years, more than 225,000 trees may not have been planted.
