FUNDRAISING NEWS: Youth Music hires fundraising chief to reach £2.5m target

Youth Music has appointed its first fundraising director whose target will be to raise £2.5 million in voluntary income by 2005.

Richard Utting will also develop a fundraising strategy for the charity, which was previously funded by Arts Council grants.

He joins Youth Music from the Rambert Dance company where he was head of fundraising. Before that he worked in the fundraising and sponsorship department at the National Theatre.

Youth Music helps fund youth- and community-based music organisations around the country. Utting said that the majority of money raised through any new fundraising will be ploughed back into local activity.

"New fundraising activities will be designed to further our work funding music groups and encouraging community activity," he said. "We're determined to keep our core costs down and see this as an opportunity to make a valuable and independent contribution to the youth music sector."
