Fundraising: Sir Elton auctions off prized piano

Sir Elton John is auctioning one of his prized pianos on eBay to raise money for his Aids charity.

The legendary musician has autographed the grand piano, which he calls Fiona. All the proceeds will go directly to the Elton John Aids Foundation.

John will play it for the final time at the charity's Academy Awards after-show party in Los Angeles on 5 March, and the bidding will officially start four days later.

Scott Campbell, director of the foundation, said: "The charity auction of this one-of-a-kind piano offers a unique opportunity for a fan or collector to win a major piece of music history while simultaneously raising funds for the crucial work of Aids prevention, education and treatment."

Earlier this month, John won undisclosed libel damages from The Sunday Times, which falsely alleged he had behaved in a rude manner at a charity ball. The singer donated all of the proceeds of the case to the foundation.
