Further merger is on CVS agenda

Two voluntary organisations in Cambridgeshire are set to merge due to funding pressures from local authorities.

East Cambridgeshire Council for Voluntary Service and Ely & District Volunteer Centre are expected to become one organisation called Voluntary and Community Action East Cambridgeshire by the end of September. It is the latest in many mergers involving CVSs in England (Third Sector, 1 August).

Both the two organisations are funded mainly by Cambridgeshire County Council and East Cambridgeshire District Council.

"Our funders have been saying to everybody in the area that doing nothing is not an option," said Avril Hayter-Smith, project and development manager at the volunteer centre.
