Sound Base, a charity which helps disaffected young people channel their energies into music, has received investment worth £134,000 from Futurebuilders.
The funding will enable the Hertfordshire-based organisation to refurbish its premises and to expand its service for Learning and Skills Council and local authority purchasers.
Sound Base runs courses in analogue and digital recording, DJ mixing, computer recording, programming and sound production techniques. The organisation targets its work at young offenders and those at risk of offending. It aims to broaden their skills and aspirations and raise their confidence.
Requests for Sound Base's courses have come from places such as Brighton, Kent, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Italy. The charity plans to buy larger premises and expand into sports coaching, drama and art courses, and offer local musicians cheap recording time.
The investment from Futurebuilders includes a loan and grants for capital projects and running costs.
