Gift Aid consultation kicks off

The government's consultation on how to increase the sector's uptake of Gift Aid will start next week with the first of a series of regional meetings.

The first meeting will be on Monday at Kings College London, followed by events in Edinburgh on 9 August, Bristol on 18 August, and Birmingham on 23 August.

More will follow in Belfast on 6 September, Leeds on 13 September and Cardiff on 21 September.

The Treasury said it was “particularly keen” to hear the views of small and local charities. “HM Treasury is eager to reach a comprehensive range of charitable organisations,” a statement said.

A spokesman for the Charity Tax Group said it was encouraging members to attend.

The Treasury is due to release a progress report on the consultation by the winter and a second report in spring 2008.
