Girlguiding scraps regional databases

Girlguiding UK is replacing its regional databases with a central system that will store all the charity's membership details.

Because of its devolved structure, the organisation currently runs numerous databases.

It initiated a process to standardise its IT and human resources systems in 2004. It has since purchased the Integra software package from IT firm Computer Software Group. Integra should be fully functional by 2009.

"As an organisation with more than 500,000 young members and 100,000 adult volunteers, an efficient membership database is vital," said Hilary Chittock, head of membership support services at Girlguiding UK.
