Government awards recognise technology for social good

A government-sponsored awards programme to recognise the use of technology for social good has been launched.

There are nine categories, and people can enter before 16 June individually or as a group. The entrants could either have created their own social technology or used existing tools in an innovative way.

A spokesperson for Make Your Mark, the youth enterprise campaign by the department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, said: “The exciting part of this project is that we don’t really know what we are expecting to find. These kinds of ideas no longer exclusively sit within the tech world, and my guess is that there are social activists across the UK using technology to benefit communities in lots of different ways.”
