Grant Thornton to evaluate Modernisation Fund

Capacitybuilders recruits chartered accountants

Capacitybuilders has commissioned chartered accountants Grant Thornton to evaluate the delivery of phase one of the £16.5m Modernisation Fund.

The non-departmental public body is managing part of the fund, set up to encourage charities to merge, collaborate or adapt in the recession.

In phase one, bursaries worth £1,000 were awarded to organisations to purchase two days' consultancy support.

Capacitybuilders is also seeking bidders to carry out a separate evaluation of the fund's impact.

Capacitybuilders manages the £231m ChangeUp programme, which the Government established to strengthen the voluntary sector.

The programme was strongly criticised by the National Audit Office and the Public Accounts Committee this year for failing to keep proper records.
