Grants available to charities from Modernisation Fund

Those that received 'beat-the-recession' training are eligible to apply

Voluntary organisations that received bursaries for advice worth £1,000 from the Government's Modernisation Fund can bid for grants of up to £10,000 from next Monday.

The fund, which was a key strand of the Government's £40.5m recession action plan, is being delivered by non-departmental public body Capacitybuilders.

Organisations received bursaries in phase one for two days' training on how to survive the recession.

Those that decided after the training to consider merging or collaborating are eligible to apply for grants in phase two until 9 November.

About 500 grants are expected to be made at the end of November.

The fund is targeted at charities with annual turnovers of between £150,000 and £750,000 working in health and wellbeing, advice and guidance, and training and skills.
