Green groups plan to reveal company double standards

Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace are to step up their efforts to expose corporate double standards on green issues following the publication of a report that accuses business of actively lobbying against crucial environmental legislation.

The report from Green Alliance argues that many companies portray a green image while working through trade associations to scupper environmental regulations.

Friends of the Earth's corporate accountability campaigner Craig Bennett said the organisation's next five-year plan, due to be published in November, would include a focus on corporate accountability backed up by a significant commitment of resources.

"Companies say they are not against regulation, but what they are doing on the ground and behind the scenes is quite different. It's time to expose them."

Greenpeace director Stephen Tindale said: "These double standards are frankly begging to be exposed."
