Formed by the merger of John Grooms and the Shaftesbury Society last June, it adopts the new name after a year-long consultation involving staff, supporters and beneficiaries.

John Grooms Housing Association, which is part of the Grooms-Shaftesbury group, will also be renamed, as Livability Housing.

John Chamberlain, director of fundraising and marketing at the charity, said the new title had emerged as a clear winner. "It sums up all we hope to bring to those we work with," he said. "It captures the life-changing work we seek to achieve."

Chamberlain said he hoped the new name would make it easier for the charity to attract supporters.

"We also hope it will enable us to appeal to a broad range of audiences. That was something we at Grooms struggled with before the merger," Chamberlain added.
