Guide to promote work placements

Working For a Charity has published an online guide designed to help voluntary organisations arrange work placements for school pupils in a bid to promote the sector as a career option.

The guide, available online at www.workingforacharity.org.uk, offers advice on the process of arranging work experience for young people aged 14 to 16.

Elaine Smethurst, manager of Working For a Charity, which promotes the sector as a career, said many voluntary organisations were losing out to the public and private sectors when it came to arranging work experience for young people who could be their future employees or volunteers.

She said: "A lot of people are unaware that you can have jobs in the third sector, let alone careers."
