Age UK Salford exists to improve the quality of life of all older people in Salford through the provision of support, advocacy and direct services. It is an award-winning, local, independent charity that is passionate about improving the lives of older people. It has a clear vision of how it can do even better and is now looking to recruit enthusiastic individuals for a range of management career opportunities.
Sue Fletcher, assistant chief executive at Age UK Salford, tells us about the management opportunities currently available and what it’s like to work for the charity.
What roles are you recruiting for and what do they involve?
We are recruiting for a number of exciting management opportunities including: two executive managers who have the experience and skills to develop and manage our care and commercial services; a manager who will lead our valued Dementia Support Service; a marketing and communications manager whose aim will be to ensure that local older people have effective access to our full range of services by making people aware of all we have to offer; and a volunteering services co-ordinator who will support our growing numbers of volunteers.
What kind of people are you looking for?
We are looking for people with the ability to think creatively and deliver innovative solutions, both strategically and operationally. To succeed at Age UK Salford, you need a proven track record of organisational business and relationship management, as well as an ability to earn respect, break down resistance and bring together a wide range of views to build consensus and agreement.
You also need to have strong written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to present clear and concise information in different formats and to different audiences. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to lead and work as part of a team, building positive relationships with staff, colleagues and stakeholders. You will also have an understanding of the issues around working with volunteers.
You will demonstrate personal leadership by contributing towards continuous service improvement, adopting a positive approach to change and a willingness to seek solutions to resolve the day to day challenges of delivering effective services for older people who live in Salford.

What exciting projects are you working on?
We are committed to promoting social connectedness, building on opportunities to reduce loneliness and isolation and helping to create age-friendly communities, in line with the developing aims of the Ambition for Ageing programme. We actively support the better integration of health and social care services in Salford, and we champion the role of the voluntary, charitable and social enterprise sector. As a charity, we are also leading a project to prevent malnutrition amongst older people.
What opportunities for training and development do you offer?
Age UK Salford is committed to employing and retaining committed and first rate staff. We offer staff and volunteers training sessions on topics such as safeguarding adults, moving and handling, health and safety, food hygiene, fire safety, as well as service-specific training. We promote equality, diversity and equal opportunities. All of our training sessions are designed to maintain a good standard of care and continuous improvement. Individual supervision is also provided in each area of work.
