HMRC funds workshops for charities supporting elderly people

A charity partnership has received £28,000 funding from HM Revenue & Customs to run workshops about tax at retirement for third sector groups supporting pensioners.

Life Academy and TaxHelp for Older People have succeeded in their joint bid to provide the service following the success of six pilot workshops they ran earlier this year. Feedback shows that charities for the elderly are increasingly being asked for tax advice.

The HMRC funding will go towards further 12 sessions that will help charities to respond better to the financial issues faced by pensioners and those nearing retirement.

Life Academy also plans to appoint a network of intermediaries in the sector to refer difficult queries to TaxHelp for Older People.

“We are delighted to have won this funding which will enable us to expand the reach of this invaluable advice to a wider audience,” said Stuart Royston, chief executive of Life Academy.
