Homeless forum to close in April

John Plummer

An umbrella body representing 250 homelessness organisations is to close at the end of next month with the loss of eight jobs.

The National Rent Deposit Forum was set up 10 years ago to support local rent deposit schemes. It received strong financial support from the Community Fund, but when that ended a year ago it failed to recover.

"We received £100,000 a year from the Community Fund and our total expenditure is £250,000," said David Carter, director of the forum. "We've tried to replace it but it hasn't worked out."

About three-quarters of the forum's member organisations are charities.
