Horse charity rebrands

The International League for the Protection of Horses has changed its name to World Horse Welfare.

The charity says the name change, which is the first the organisation has undergone since its formation in 1927, will allow it to reach a wider audience in the UK and overseas.

The decision comes after extensive research with supporters, staff and the general public lasting more than a year. About 55,000 supporters were sent questionnaires and 79 per cent of those who responded supported the change of name and logo.

The charity has also unveiled a new strategy on “UK welfare, campaigns and international training”. The strategy includes a new focus on education as a way of tackling major forms of horse abuse, such as overfeeding leading to obesity.
