Housing trust may hand over its shops

A housing association is considering handing over its chain of charity shops to another community housing body so that it can focus on providing core services to tenants.

The Notting Hill Housing Trust, which has 20 charity shops across west London, is in discussion with Octavia Housing and Care about a direct transfer of all the shops' staff and assets.

The revenue raised in the shops would be channelled into the Octavia Foundation, Octavia's charitable arm, which runs projects such as debt advice services.

"This seems like the best way to fund the foundation," said Grahame Hindes, chief executive of Octavia.
