Hub seeks views on volunteer management standards

Voluntary and community organisations have been asked to provide feedback on the new National Occupational Standards for managing volunteers.

The UK Workforce Hub has produced a new draft of updated standards, which it said “reflects the challenges facing volunteer managers, such as retention, coaching criminal records bureau checks, and risk management”.

The new draft standards also cover issues such as changing status from service user to volunteer, or from volunteer to employee.

Esther Gillespie, learning and skills manager at the Workforce Hub, said: “This draft of the new standards is being made available for the next three months so that we can gain significant feedback about whether we have captured all the job functions and relevant performance criteria for volunteer managers.”

“It is crucial that we hear from as many people as possible so that these standards are redeveloped to reflect the vital role that managers of volunteers undertake.”

Organisations are invited to provide feedback on the new standards by visiting via the UK Workforce Hub website. The consultation will run until 18 January 2008.
