Hurd lays out Tory vision on volunteering

Volunteering will play an "enormous part" in the country's future, new shadow minister for charities Nick Hurd has pledged.

Hurd restated the Conservative view that volunteering should be a "social norm" to a group of Volunteering England members this week.

Echoing ideas laid out in the Tory green paper, Voluntary Action in the 21st Century, Hurd pledged to consider the issue of a vibrant and sustainable funded volunteering infrastructure.

"The Conservatives see volunteering as playing an enormous part in the future of the country," said Hurd. "This agenda is central to David Cameron's project and his vision."

Hurd also asked for feedback from the groups about local successes and failures, so he could work out where the Tories should target their efforts.
