Improving Reach proving popular

Capacitybuilders' Improving Reach programme is nine times oversubscribed, it has revealed.

About 900 applications were received before last week's deadline for the £18m fund, which is designed to improve the support available to front-line organisations working with excluded communities.

Capacitybuilders said the fund would be able to support between 100 and 120 organisations over a three-year period from April.

"We expected the fund to be really popular and were clear all along that limited funding was available for the programme," a Capacitybuilders spokeswoman said.

The applications will be scrutinised by an independent panel before final decisions on the destination of the cash are made in March.
