Institute of Funding: Workshops in payroll giving give small charities the edge

Following the recent launch of the Payroll Giving Grants programme, the Institute is introducing a series of training workshops for charities.

The Payroll Giving Grants programme enables charities and businesses with fewer than 500 employees to receive a grant of up to £500 for setting up payroll giving, the tax-effective donation scheme for employees. This gives those charities the opportunity to get a cash payout and a regular, reliable donation flow, with set-up costs offset by the grant payment.

What better way to provide training for fundraisers than promoting the scheme internally?

The Institute is committed to helping smaller, community-based charities, including those that may not have benefited from payroll donations in the past, to make the most of the programme. Payroll giving has achieved good participation rates among bigger brand charities, but smaller charities can benefit considerably from the scheme too, generating a regular, reliable income from local businesses and their employees. This programme, the guidance materials and the training workshops are designed to give support to smaller charities in particular.

The grants programme provides an ideal opportunity to make contact and build relationships with both existing and potential corporate supporters.

If you haven't already tapped into payroll giving, now is the time to get started. The Institute is working to support charities, particularly smaller community-based organisations, in benefiting from the programme.

Making Local Business Your Business is a series of one-day workshops on everything charities need to know in order to make the most out of the grants programme. Taking place across the UK between April and July, they are open to all fundraisers and local charity representatives.

The workshops cover how the grants programme works, how to set up a payroll giving scheme and how to promote the programme to employers. They run from 10am to 4.30pm and cost £30 for individual members of the Institute, or £40 for non-members.
