Institute of Fundraising: Go global with the fundraising certificate

Last week saw the second gathering of all the world's main fundraising umbrella bodies in Holland. In total, 22 different countries were represented and the conference produced some excellent news about fundraisers who currently hold, or are working towards, the Certificate in Fundraising Management.

Firstly, the European Fundraising Association announced that it is in detailed discussions with the EU about developing a European-wide fundraising qualification system that is based on both the UK's certificate and the professional development carried out at Germany's Fundraising Academy.

This would mean that anyone having the initials MinstF (Cert) after their name would have that qualification recognised in any European country.

Secondly, the Resource Alliance is developing some global qualifications that will draw on the work that went into developing the certificate and, again, these would be transferable and recognisable.

After the conference, delegates from South Africa, Australia and New Zealand all asked how the certificate worked. New Zealand, in particular, has a shortage of qualified fundraisers and their immigration service now recognises fundraising as meeting the immigration criteria for applicants.

So, if you hold the certificate and fancy the laid-back life of the land of the long white cloud, then get on with it!
